Kruger National Park is South Africa’s premier Game Reserve and possibly offers some of the the best animal sightings that any National Park can offer, Kruger is a true African wilderness. The South African section covers an area of about 2 million hectares, almost as big as Wales whilst the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park which combines reserves in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, covers an area about as big as Belgium forms one of the biggest Nature Reserves in the world. With 17 eco zones, it supports populations of 507 bird species, 147 mammal species and 114 reptile species, clearly there’s no shortage for variety. |

Pilanesberg National Park is a malaria free game reserve and a good alternative to Kruger for travellers with less time or just wanting to get away from the traffic and crowds of Johannesburg. Situated just over 2 hours from Johannesburg, Pilanesberg covers an area of about 50,000 hectares and is South Africa’s 5th largest game reserve. Pilanesberg supports about 81 mammal species including the big five (Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Rhino), as well as many other rare mammals such as Sable, African Wild Dog, Cheetah, Cape Clawless Otter, Black Rhino and Brown Hyena together with fantastic birding and over 350 species which occur in the park. |
